Movie Review - Superman Returns

Its 1 am and I just got back from Superman Returns. BRIAN SINGER IS A GENIUS!!!! BRANDON ROUTH IS FRICKING AWESOME!!!! Yes, I liked the show.

If you're looking for a wordly, well written and in depth review, go visit some of the hundreds of newspapers, websites and blogs. My review is heartfelt and spoiler free, written by a long time fan of Superman.

There's so much to like. From his first reappearance to earth, to the BIG SECRET, to him getting pounded, to his fall. There's so much I'd like to say but won't because it would just spoil the experience for you.

I will say that this show borrows very heavily from the original 2 Superman movies. From the use of Marlon Brando's voice and image to the Daily Planet, to Lex Luthor. And yet, Brian Singer updated the show for the 21st centaury. Brandon was an amazing choice. He looks amazing as Superman but I think he truly steals the show as Clerk Kent. Clerk is clumsy and awkward but at the same time so cute and endearing. Like a 6'4" 215 pound puppy. As for his costume - its skin tight. There isn't a single padding, every bump and curve you see is Brandon's body and trust me none of the pictures I've seen does it any justice.

Brandon shares at least one thing in common with Christopher Reeves. They both have amazingly beautiful blue eyes. And although I was not a real fan of Christopher Reeves, I'm touched that they included a dedication to him and his wife.

How would it compare to XMEN3 you ask? Well, I loved XMEN3. But let's be honest, with an ensemble cast of over 10 persons, its tough to develop a deep storyline. I would say that XMEN3 was an awesome action movie but Superman Returns is a drama with action. The start of a very beautiful deep drama. It has a depth that XMEN3 didn't. I would compare it more with Batman Begins, except not so dark.

And now to the ratings, the show is a little slow (that's the only bad thing I'll say about it), and if you're not a Superman fan then this is probably a 7/10. But if you liked Batman Begins, Bryan Singer's movies or Superman then this movie rates a 9/10. It’s good to see the old S flying again.

PS. A huge thank you to Blue Tights Network, its a website that has been dedicated to Superman Reutrns ever since day 1 which was about 2-3 years ago. They kept all us fans informed while we waited for the movie.

Eureka

This is one of the new TV show premieres that I'm really looking forward to. Its on the SciFi Channel. Visit the official site for more info.
Nestled in the Pacific Northwest, Eureka is a seemingly ordinary town whose residents lead ordinary lives … at least to the naked eye. Shrouded in secrecy, the picturesque hamlet is actually a community of scientific geniuses assembled by the government to conduct top-secret research

Watch the promo for the show below:

Oh and I think Colin Ferguson is cute. He looked familiar but he's mostly done bit parts up till now.

New Futurama in 2008

This just in from Darkhorizons. WOOT!!!! Nerds Rejoice!!!! **breaks out the champagne**

Comedy Central plans to resurrect the Fox animated series "Futurama" with at least 13 new episodes to be produced.

Running from 1999-2003, the show created by "Simpsons" originator Matt Groening ran for 72 episodes and yielded a large and loyal cult audience which has resulted in solid DVD sales and good ratings for repeat episodes on cable.

The new batch is part of a deal the cable network made with Fox Television last year to pick up syndicated rights to the existing episodes. Comedy Central also had an option to air any new episodes produced.

New and old episodes will begin airing in 2008 on Comedy Central. Actors Billy West, Katey Sagal and John DiMaggio have agreed to return as voices for "Futurama."

Brandon's my new Fantasy Boyfriend

You have to read this interview that Ain't it Cool News had with Brandon Routh.
Here's some excerpts:
Harry: I know for me, a lot of that faith came from the fact he found Hugh Jackman for Wolverine, and I felt that Bryan was not accustomed to casting bad actors.

Brandon: Right.

Bryan Singer on top of proving that he's an excellent director has also proven that he can choose actors which are totally HOT to almost every demographic [gay/straight/male/female]. BTW you do know that he's gay right?

Harry: I’ve heard rumors that you’re a World of Warcraft freak…

Brandon (genuinely surprised laughter, followed by a seemingly blushing) Yeah… …that’s true.

Harry – Just yesterday there was an announcement that Spielberg was going to be making that movie.

Brandon – (Breathlessly exasperated and excitedly) ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?!?

Harry – (giggling) I’m totally serious.

Brandon – (to his girlfriend – away from phone – and with an enthusiasm I haven’t heard from him) SPIELBERG IS DOING WARCRAFT!

(Girlfriend) – WHAAAAAAA?!?!?!?! Oh my god!
(I begin laughing)
Come on. If you're gay, into Computer games and a Superman nut (guilty on all 3 counts), Brandon is just too good to be true!!! He's the perfect fantasy boyfriend and is HOT to boot.

Harry: And to see whatever expanded edition comes out in the future that Bryan comes out with.

Brandon: There should be some good stuff, Rob Burnett is working very hard on the DVD and I’m very excited about seeing all that stuff myself. And Harry, thank you very much for all your kind words about the movie and my performance, I took a look at that and it was great.
Finally, a DVD coming out that might possibily mimic the LoTR's trilogy and made an actual extended version of the film. A 3 1/2 hour version of the (I predict) hit Superman Returns! I'm sooo pre-ordering this.

BTW If you're reading the entertainment news, you'd know that critics are giving Superman Returns EXCELLENT reviews!!! RottenTomatoes has 10 reviews so far and 9 are fresh!!!
WOOT!!!

I recommend that you read this:
Disorder in the Court

These are from a book called Disorder in the American Courts, and are things people actually said in court, word for word, taken down and now published by court reporters who had the torment of staying calm while these exchanges were actually taking place

____________________________________________

ATTORNEY: Are you qualified to give a urine sample?

____________________________________________

And the best for last

ATTORNEY: Doctor, before you performed the autopsy, did you check for a pulse?
WITNESS: No.
ATTORNEY: Did you check for blood pressure?
WITNESS: No.
ATTORNEY: Did you check for breathing?
WITNESS: No.
ATTORNEY: So, then it is possible that the patient was alive when you began the autopsy?
WITNESS: No.
ATTORNEY: How can you be so sure, Doctor?
WITNESS: Because his brain was sitting on my desk in a jar.
ATTORNEY: But could the patient have still been alive, nevertheless?
WITNESS: Yes, it is possible that he could have been alive and practicing law.

Movie Review - The Lake House

How many times have you anticipated a movie, and when it finally airs, you walk out only to be disappointed? It didn't happen with The Lake House. I saw the original Korean version of this movie several years ago and thought that it was unique, well told but very very slow. So when I heard that it was being remade by Hollywood and starring Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves, I was quietly hopeful that they would do the movie justice.

I now have the perfect movie for lazy afternoon, for breakups, for when I feel alone and unloved, it is called "The Lake House".Make no mistake, this is not the romance movie for everyone. This movie requires you to leave your brain at home and just let the director take you on a journey, watching as 2 people slowly fall for each other. It let's you shed some tears and best of all, it builds up to a gentle climax that I thought made the whole movie worth while. The ending scene is perhaps my favourite of all and made me leave the theatre with a satisfied sigh.

Many reviewers will pan this movie, calling it slow and banal. But if you're a true romantic and you're not in a rush, I highly recommend this movie.

Sandra Bullock is perfect in her usual role of broody girl next door. But the real shocker is Keanu Reeves. This is the first movie that I think he truly acts. I can actually see emotion in his face. His previous attempts at romance A Walk in the Clouds and Sweet November were simply training wheels for "The Lake House". And together, you can feel the chemistry between them, they look perfect together.

I give The Lake House a very biased 10/10 and my vote for best romantic movie of the decade.

Interview with Mr. Brandon Routh (aka Superman)

Question: So you're 6'3". What did you weigh when you were Superman?

Routh: 220, 218 at my heaviest.

Question: And what do you weigh now?

Routh: 211, 212.
Question: For the sequel right, you're doing a sequel too right?

Routh: If we do another one, I'll certainly be back in the gym before that.

Question: Have they told you to set aside September 2007?

Routh: They've not told me any time. I'm the last to know.

Question: What's next for you professionally? Are you going to be able to, are you looking for things that are as un-Superman-like as you can before doing another Superman movie or are you just taking your time?

Routh: Well I'm Superman, just not action. I'm kind of looking for something with a lot less action and more talking and listening. I also have a film that's premiering Vegas Film Festival, short film, directed by Joel Kelly, it's called Denial and it's a story, short film, 35 mm short film and it's about a man's struggle to choose between the woman of his dreams and his reality, so it's definitely different than Superman. So I'm really proud of that.

Question: Are you a comic guy, are you a fan boy yourself?

Routh: I am, of comics I was never as big of a fan as I probably could have been I suppose but I'm definitely a fan of science fiction fantasy. My interests were in fantasy more than comics growing up.

Read the whole interview. It sounds like Routh is very down to earth.

Ever have one of those Days?

Sigh... it was not a good day. Woke up (too late to work out as usual) drove to work and ... the car seemed to be making this knocking sound. I stopped looked over the car, found nothing, continued and then... the sound stopped for a few seconds and a worse sound started. I pulled over, waited for 45mins for a tow truck. And that's when I found out it was a flat.

Which is good news because I spent the waiting time dreaming up very bad scenarios for my 2 year old Honda Element. So a flat was good news to me. The tow truck took me to the garage and I bought a new tire. If course it was in their storehouse so I had to wait for the new wheel to arrive.

Anyway, 3 hours later I finally showed up for work. Just one of those days.

PS. I can rebuild a computer any which way but trust me when I say I can't even find the knob to open my trunk.

Mosquito Ring Tones

If you read the New York Times today, you'll have definately read an article about a Ring tone that only children can hear.

Evidently, as we age our hearing gets worse. And a british company come up with sounds that only children can hear. Well... some smart ass made those sounds into a ringtone and uploaded them on the web and people are calling them Mosquito Ring Tones :)

If you find a working link let me know! I wanna see if my hearing is that of an adult or if I'm still as young as I feel.

Update:
Click here to hear the tone. Thanks Eins.

And I'm still not sure if I can hear it. Is it supposed to be this really really high pitch sound that sets my hair on end? Almost like the sound you hear when you switch on the TV sometimes or when you experience feedback from a mike?

If that's the sound, then I can't see people making it their ring tones. Way too easy to miss it imo.

Broadway Bares 2006

If you're gay and live in New York, you've probably hear about a little annual show called Broadway Bares. If you've never heard of it, its a show where the dancers and stars of broadway donate their time to organize 2 shows where the performers bare it all. Well... almost bear it all. All the proceeds go towards Equity fights AIDS.

Sigh.. wish I could be in NYC next week.

Soda in a Bottle

As you know I love shopping at Costco. This week I found this little gem. Its soda in a bottle. I know this isn't a "new" thing but... this one just appealed to me somehow. I've tried all 3 and I absolutely love the Black Cherry. There's just something about drinking soda from a bottle that plastic just can't mimic.

PS. IF you don't like diet, this is also sold as regular soda.
