New Year Dinner

So aside from my Star Sighting Geek out, here's what we had for New Year's dinner. we went to Sushi Kim. Its a Korean restaurant that serves Japanese food too.

We had Sushi Sashimi Combo

A spicy seafood soup with korean noodles. Quite good, and the heat and spicyness really hit the spot on this cold snowy night

Finally, we had Beef Bul gol gi which I forgot to photograph. These are the side dishes it came with.

Star Sightings

So its New Year's eve and I'm in Pittsburg. Its snowing and cold and there's a new year's parade in progress. Me and eins just had new year's dinner and we were walking back to her place while watching the parade.

THEN! We had a Hollywood star sighting. We saw David Conrad!!! Don't know the name? If you watch Ghost Whisperer, he's the husband!!!! I was less than 1 arm's length away from a TV star, and a very cute one at that.

Hey, its the first time I've seen a TV celebrity so forgive me while I freak out. He was dressed causally in a black leather bomber jacket and jeans and sported several days growth of beard. He was alone and leaning against a building watching the parade. I didn't approach him but we did stop a little aways and confirm our sighting :)

Hmmm... 2009 might turn out to be filled with more than just the doom and gloom we're reading about in the papers.

Christmas Dinner

For Christmas Dinner, eins and I used quick mixes so it was very easy preparation. Most of our mixes were from Prima foods. If you're not in Singapore or have access to someone in Singapore... tough luck. In my opinion its one of the most authentic mixs around.

We had Nasi Bryani, just put the mix with rice and chicken stock instead of water. We also added fried onions in butter for extra taste. It turned out very nicely.

Next was Rendang. we used Prima Food's Rendang mix and used a pressure cooker for the first time. It only took 20mins and the beef came out super tender! As always
Prima Food's mixes were awesome.

We also had chicken thighs, and used Prima food's Chilli Crab mix. It might say crab on the mix packet but it works for all kinds of meat.

Here's everything in a bowl. The perfect serving, also with brussel sprouts for color and ... health.

And finally for desert, Agar Agar. Simple but very satisfying.

Merry Christmas 2008

Merry Christmas! Thankfully Ein lives in Pittsburgh so I can crash at her place on times like this, so I'm not just stewing alone in a hotel room on Christmas.

BTW, here's the presents I got this year (not including the ones I gave myself). I got an eggling and a WII.

My Christmas and New Year plans

Where will you be this Christmas and New Year's? I'll be spending it in a hotel room. Just found out last week then the project I'm on needs me through the holidays. I might not be working those days but they would like coverage just in case the processes we need to run don't go quite as planned.

This is not new to me, after all I work in payroll and year end is when bonuses and special pays and such things need to be completed. but don't feel sorry for me, cos on 8th Jan 09, I start my 3 week vacation to Singapore.

A moment of Pride

I may have lived in the USA for the past 10 years, but I still identify myself as a Singaporean. So its with a moment of pride as I read this article .

Bottomline, on a global scale, Singapore ranks number one in Science Scores. I believe 8th grade is equivalent to Secondary 2. And on math scores, we rank 3rd and only by a handful of points.
