Dark Kingdom - The Dragon King

This is a new fantasy movie. It premiered on the Scifi Channel on the 27th and 28th March 2006. The strange thing is that by accident I found out the DVD for this show is available on the 28th March 2006. So naturally I reserved a copy and watched it in all its digital splendor instead of the Scifi channel.

I'll keep the review fairly brief. Its actually very "Lord of the Ringish" if you get my meaning. This was not made on a shoe string budget and the quality shows in the production value, the fighting, the plot and even the acting. There are some well known names here.

Thankfully, the director didn't try to make this movie an epic. The story is fairly basic and that I think is what makes it a success. For a complete write up of the story visit Scifi channel's synopsis.

Oh and one more thing. I think almost everyone in this movie is European. Which further proves a hypothesis I have. Americans can't do fantasy based movies. Those are best left to Europeans.

If you're a Scifi fan this show is definitely worth a watch. Its light years better than Dungeon & Drageons and only a couple of notches down from Lord of the Rings.

Rumor Mill-Jackman is Superman's Daddy!

A brief and strange mention has popped up online today claiming that Hugh Jackman, he of the shiny claws and the mutant DNA, will be appearing in this summer’s Superman Returns in a cameo as none other than the Man of Steel’s dad.

Which dad Jackman will play – his Earth father or his Krypton pop – is unclear. But according to Variety’s story about the actor, who just won Male Star of the Year at the industry convention ShoWest, Jackman “has a cameo in Bryan Singer’s upcoming Superman Returns, playing the Man of Steel’s young dad in flashback mode.” Hmmm.

And it’s just a Superman kind of news day apparently, because elsewhere on the magical Internet new images of Weta Collectibles' Superman Returns statues have shown up. These figures were “inspired by moments” from the film. You can see one here, but click over to the Weta site for the rest of the images.
Awesome!!! My fave actor might be Superman's Daddy!

Gotta Collect them all

Have you seen these dolls? M&M + Star Wars. I first saw these on my visit to S'pore and now I'm seriously thinking about collecting them all. I think there are about 8-10 dolls in all. Aren't they cute?

The one I have is called The Emperor.

Dr Who

SciFi finished airing the season fanale for Stargate SG1 and Atlantis. Usually I'd be depressed because this means the end of my Scifi Friday nights but not so this year. The execs at SciFi Channel finally got their act together and imported the Dr. Who series from the BBC.

If you're into sci-fi then you must have heard of Dr.Who I'll admit that I never really followed Dr.Who after all its about a wierd looking guy who travel thru time and space in a phone booth! But the 2005 remake series by the BBC has been getting RAVE reviews and so I plunked down to watch 2 episodes last friday.
The result? I'm now newly converted Dr. Who fan. Now some might ask how you can be a fan of the series after watching only 2 episodes, and my answer is this, after the Original Star Wars movie in 1978, there were hundreds of thousands of newly converted star wars fans. Yes I do think Dr. Who is that good. don't get me wrong, I still love the Stargate franchise but there's room in me for more than 1 series.

The series is so popular that its now filming season 2 and BBC has ordered seasons 3 & 4. Here's a little titbit though. In Season 1, Dr who is played by Christopher Eccleston, but in Season 2, Dr who is played by David Tennant. Christopher left the series for fear of being typecasted but I believe they worked the change of appearance into the series.

Here's a quick intro to the Dr. Who universe:
He is an Allen, the last remaining survivor of a race called the time lords. Hence the ability to travel thru time and space. The phone booth is actually his space ship in disguise. I'm still not quite sure why he's travelling thru time and space battling evil but to give you a feel of the series, episode 2 - "The End of the World" had him taking Rose (the female sidekick) 5 billion years into the future to watch the earth's sun turn into a red giant star.

For the less geekly outthere, this is actually based on science. The earth's sun is currently estimated at 5 billions years and scientists predict that in another 5 billion years, the sun will 'die' and become a red giant star. Essentially its gonna swell up to at least 3-4 times its current size give off HUGE radiation (and destroying earth) and become a much cooler red giant star.

But enough of the science lesson, go watch Dr. Who on Scifi every Friday nights at 7pm. And if you miss it Season 1 DVD will be out in a few months.

So conflicted about Elder Scrolls IV. I know its been the holy grail of RPG's to many people, but honestly I didn/t enjoy 1-3 that much. The game is know for allowing players the freedom to do whatever they want in game and not leading them by the nose, but sometimes too much freedom isn't all its cracked up to be.

Sun after the Snow

These photos were taken on Tuesday. This is why I love living in the midwest. Everything looks so clean and bright the day after a snowstorm.

Ah well, more snow's in the forecast tonight and this weekend so I'm making sure I've got lots of food stocked up just in case.

Hehe. Found this on Queerclick and had to steal it. I thought it was cute.

Snowstorms in March

Just in case you're actually reading my blog and was wondering how my exercise program is coming along... its not. My excuse is the weather. Sunday was pretty crummy and even rained and as you can see a snowstorm blew in Sunday night and Minneapolis was basically under a wunter storm watch till about noon.

These pictures were taken outside my house at about 7am and it was coming down very hard. Travel was a bitch as you can imagine and when I got to work, only 1/2 the people made it and the entire network was down. So no one got anywork done. We mostly chatted till about noon and left for the day.

Unlike some, I choose to live in Minneapolis because I love winter. I don't like driving in it but I don't mind the cold or the wet. Heck I even consider shoveling relatively fun. There's more snow in the forecast for Wed and this weekend as well so to those who think Winter ends in December... not in the midwest.

Personal Musings

I had a GREAT day so far. Being single and a type B personality (read laid back) my weekends tend to be lazy and might even consist of me spending the whole day in bed reading. Not today, no siree.

About a week ago I bought a Pedometer from amazon. Now I've always had a weight problem and tried everything from protein diets to getting a personal trainer to joining LA WeightLoss. I've had reasonable success with them all but the problem lies with maintaining. So the latest thing I'm buying into is walking 10,000 steps a day. The aim here is to lead a healthy life and not aim for those 6-pack abs. I've had the pedometer over a week now and average about 3500-5500 steps a day. But this is the day that I made myself go out and walk. As you can see 55 mins of brisk walking achieved my goal. Those steps also translate into about 5.32 miles. Right now I'm aiming to do the same thing tomorrow. Get up early and go for a brisk walk. Ideaily it should be a daily thing but I'm starting small. If I can do this every weekend, it'll be quite a breakthru for me.

I then got a haircut and did some grocery shopping. Both my weekly groceries as well as chinese groceries. To the right is a picture of some really good wings. The orange sauce is kinda hit or miss but these wings are absolutely fabulous. If you've got a Sam's club nearby I highly recommend these wings.

Next I went to "Shung Hur" in uptown for chinese groceries. Now if you live in Minneapolis you'll know that uptown isn't exactly close to my place. But I love going there because they also sell freshly roasted Duck, Chicken, Pork etc. So tonight's dinner is gonna be Duck and pork with noodles and mushrooms. Yum!

On my way back I remembered that Halfprice Books was having a 20% off everything sale, so naturally I had to pop in and check it out. Books are a great weakness of mine. People have shoe fetishes, I have book fetishes. I love browsing and buying books. But lately I seem to be buying them a lot faster than I can read them which leads to me having a rather sizeable backlog.

Regardless I gave in to temptation and went wild as you can see. All those books only cost $37!!! I'm just really thankful that my "fetish" is relatively cheap, so I'm not gonna harp on the fact that I spend way too much on books.

So that was my very productive day and why I feel so good today. What's left on the agenda? Well, its Saturday so that means starting 8pm - midnight I have a standing meeting with 39 other folks to go kill some dragons. Tonight's dragon list is Onyxia, Razorgore, Vaelastrasz. Now its off to a bath, dinner and some dragon killing. Hope your day's been as good as mine and
thanks for reading.
