Thanksgiving 2007

Well, I visited a friend in Pittsburgh for Thanksgiving this year. I got to cook! Its been a while since I've really cooked. After all, there's just no sense in cooking for one. There were 5 of us and a whole lot of food.

Top Left: Curry cauliflower Soup, Brussel Sprouts with Bacon/*Chinese Sticky Rice/*Grape and Pork Stuffing, Sour Kraut, Cornbread.

Bottom Left: Potato Pancakes -Fried, 12 pound Turkey, Potato Pancake - Baked, Pumpkin Pie/Grapes/*Peach Agar Agar (Jello).

I made those with the (*). One of the couples was from Austria which explains the Sour Kraut and Potato Pancakes. The Turkey and Cornbread were from Boston Market, Thank goodness! I've cooked Thanksgiving Turkey before and trust me, 8-10 hours by the oven is no fun.

Here a picture of the table and a close-up of the piled plate.

After a heavy meal, we went walking around downtown Pittsburgh for about 2 1/2 hours. It was a lovely night. Came back ate more, watched a movie on pay-per-view (Inside Man) and that's Thanksgiving 2007.

BananaGuard

You know the feeling, just when you fancy eating that banana you've been carrying around, you dig it out from the bottom of your bag to discover it looks like it has gone a few rounds with Mike Tyson.
How many times have you taken your banana to work or school only to find it transformed into a black inedible mess?
Only hours before your banana was perfect, now it is just fit for the bin.

You need BANANAGUARD!

I swear to God, this is a real product! People will buy the dumbest shit! I mean a banana guard isn't THAT wierd. But paying about US$8 for a banana that costs about 20-30 cents?

Happy Turkey Day

Well its Turkey day here in the States again. I'm actually in Pittsburg visiting a friend. I decided against posting a picture of a turkey and instead I'm posting up a fun little game for those of us seeking to escape the company of family for a few minutes or who just happen to be alone and bored. Base Jumping is a really short and fun game.

Here's hoping you get lots of turkey and stuffings. Enjoy!

My Hamsters take after me

Remember me getting 2 pet hamsters about 2 months ago?

Well here's an update on them. They're still alive and well. But I have to wonder... Other people have hamsters that do tricks, or act cute. Mine .... just wanna have fun.

PS. The "Top" is Kyle. And poor Kal-El endures his attentions. And just in case there's any confusion, they are both males.

Recent Purchases

Remember a post I made some weeks back about World of Warcraft and a new card game? Well, I caved and picked up this card for about $40 on ebay. So now Astir (my priest) has a pet Hippogryph!

I still don't have the Turtle mount though. Can't bring myself to spend over $100 on an item which is purely cosmetic. **I'm cheap**

Oh and The Complete Friends Season 1-10 has been re-released. but this time its actually affordable! The retail price is $299.98, Amazon is selling it for $182.88, but rush down to your local Costco and its only $162.89 That works out to about $16.30 for each season of Friends!!!

My New Fave Blog

This is now my new Fave Blog - Yochana's cake delight, for obvious reasons. Not only does it have frequent updates of awesome looking cakes, the recipes are also included!

If you're not asian then I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with the variety of cakes available in an asian cake shop. I've yet to see a bakery or pastry shop in the States that can compare.

Ebichu

I first heard about Ebichu from eins several years ago and ever since I've been a total fan of this anime. It is an anime about a cute, family-friendly hamster that likes to keep the home tidy. However, the situations that said hamster puts herself in and/or is witness to are not exactly family-friendly situations.

It's hard to explain Ebichu, I think Wikipedia does it best:
Most episodes follow Ebichu, a talking hamster devoted to her oft-indifferent owner, who is only identified as OL (”Office Lady”), a single 25 year old (this is the age Japanese women are considered nearing the end of the ideal marrying age) who doles out cynical commentary and the occasional beating on the rodent. Ebichu tends to take this in stride with endless praise and compliments. However, such abuse is usually caused by Ebichu’s almost disturbing lack of tact or propriety, often embarrassing her master in front of other people.

Anyway, I tried uploading this on youtube months ago but the files were simply too large. I'm glad someone managed to shrink them and now everyone can enjoy Ebichu. This is the very first episode. I highly recommend it.

Be warned its not work safe or sutiable for kids.

I'm a Terrible Uncle!

About 3-4 weeks ago (which is a lifetime for a 6 year old) my niece requested (thru my sister) for some smores flavored Ritz biscuits. They live in Singapore so I guess its not available there and I've never seen them, of course I've never looked out for them either. Anyway, it fell to the back of my mind and was forgotten... until I got an email from my niece last week.

Talk about feeling small. Naturally, I specifically made a trip to the grocery store and behold! there was smores Ritz biscuits right there in plain view. So I got 2 boxes, and decided to also get some sugar free choc for my parents. I also added some Pearson's Nutrolls. In case you didn't know Pearson's Nutrolls are manufactured in Minneapolis and is essentially a Minneapolis speciality, its even been featured on Food Network. I've tried it and it is salty/sweet. Quite unique,

So with all that bought I paacked everything up and sent it out last Saturday. And because my guilty conscience was still active I only winced when the bill for shipping came up about 3 times more than the candy inside. Ah well, we're only kids once and I'd know I would have loved to receive packages of sweets when I was a kid.

Game Review - Neverwinter Nights 2

Just installed my copy of Neverwinter Nights 2 last week and I'm in 7th Heaven. If you've never played Neverwinter Nights and you enjoy the RPG games then hesitate no longer. Get this game.

The Good
- This game follows D&D 3.5 edition rules. It chock full of D&D goodness. If you currently play D&D or have enjoyed D&D in the past, get this game and wait no longer.
- Playing a Mage used to be a pain as you could only memorize spells once every 8 hours. Well its now called resting and it lasts 5 secs. I know its a departure from D&D rules but it works really well for a computer game.
- Wizards too slow and stuffy? Then try out the new Warlock class. Trust me on this one. Warlocks were over powered in pen n paper D&D, but in a computer game, THEY ROCK!
- 9th level spells are included, which means level progression goes all the way till level 20
- Races and Classes. They have done absolute wonders here, allowing players to play a myrid of sub races such as Drow and Tanglefoot halflings. Oh and beware, Drow do have a +2 level racial adjustment.
- This game uses the reputation system introduced in Knights of the Old Republic. This is a VERY good thing. Each decision tree discussion in game could cause you to lose faction with your party members. EXCELLENT!
- Charisma is no longer a filler talent. My 1st character was a warlock and I enhanced my Diplomacy and Bluff skills. trust me, it paid off very well in several game options. This also means the campaign story is excellent!!!
- Don't fret about hating the first 1-5 levels too much. The tutorial (which plays as the prologue for the campaign) will up you to level 3 by the time Act 1 starts.

The Bad
- Fairly high system requirements.

The Ugly
- Not everything is hunky dory. Many people are having problems patching the game. I had about 5.5 GB of free HDD space and while patching the game, it would say insufficient space! Well, I did 2 things. (1) I Patched my windoes update. Reason for this was the game will install .NET Frame 2.0 on your system. But you need to go to microsoft's website to download the additional patches for Frame 2.0 Once this is done, ensure you have about 6.5 GB of space on your HDD and patching should go smoothly. I know this is totally retarded, a game needing 6.5 GB to patch itself? Just swallow it and patch, you'll be happy you did when the game starts.
(Face facts, Atari is the publisher and we all know Atari's support is TERRIBLE!)

I'm currently leveling 3 different characters at the same time. Isale, a chaotic neutral Human Warlock. Sialeeds, a Chaotic Good Sun Elf Mage. Dro'shanji, a Lawful Evil Thiefling Monk. Its AWESOME! The plot is the same right now but even then, the game play for all 3 is so different. Sialeeds - Sun Elf Wizard with 20 Intelligence

Tips:
- If you're a Warlock, get the feat Point Blank Range. You'll need it.
- If you're a Mage, 2 spells to ALWAYS memorize is Mage Armor and Ghostly Vistage

I highly recommend this game, especially if you enjoyed the Baldurs Gate series and Neverwinter Nights. I give it a 8/10 for RPG gamers and a 9.5/10 for D&D fans. Isale - Human Warlock with 18 Charisma

Astir gets a new Dress

This has been a great week. Both my characters in Warcraft got new Dresses. Here's Astir modelling her new Robes of the Guardian Saint from AQ40. A very nice upgrade from Mindsurge Robes.

And here's Isale modelling the pink horror from AQ20. I know it looks terrible but this is SUCH an upgrade from my previous green.

Turtles and Tabards and New Pets

Well about 2 weeks ago World of Warcraft (the online game) released a collectable card game of the same name. And 4 days after its release, they completely sold out. Needless to say it was a HUGE hit. Yours truly bought 3 boxes.

Did I think the card game was any good? I've no clue. The reason I and many others bought the cards is because you in addition to the usual rare cards, there are 3 Loot cards which can have a special code that can get you one of 3 things in the computer game. A Turtle Mount, A new pet called the Hippogryph, and a Talbard. These cards are very rare, especially the Turtle Mount. only 1 such card for every 5000 printed (Or 1 card per 13 boxes). Sadly I shelled out for 3 boxes and no Turtle :( Now I'm considering getting one on ebay, but the prices!!! Oi!! Average price of a mount runs about $150-250. And I just can't justify the cost. (Basically I'm cheap) Sigh... but I might bid on the Hippogryph if I can find one for about $60.
Oh and Blizzard was smart on this venture. In addition to the loot cards, each booster pack (15 cards pack) contains a special point card. Essentially a pack costs $3.99 and you also get 100 points. Collect enough points and you get a "free" in game item. I'm also eyeing this, for 25,000 points you get a special item that allows you to become an Ogre!

Some might call spending money on items that don't exist crazy. The way I look at it, some people Travel, some buy shoes and clothes, others even gamble with their money. I play computer games.

Doogie Howser's gay

Neil Patrick Harris is gay, from a people exclusive. I've always liked him but it seemed that since Doogie Howser his career was mostly B grade movies/shows until last year when he landed a role on the hit show How I Met Your Mother. Of couse you have to consider that he played that role from 17 - 21 years old (1989 - 1993).

Regardless, I like him and koodos for deciding to come out!

Lindsey admids she's a skank!

OK this is perhaps among the WORST things Lindsey Lohan could have done. She gave a surprisingly frank interview to News of the World, talking about her battles with eating disorders, admitting to using drugs, and wanting to have sex with as many people as possible.
But while she has had a difficult relationship with food, there has never been anything wrong with Lindsay's sexual appetite.

The wild child has had a string of dalliances with celebs like John Lennon's son Sean, Bruce Willis, Leonardo DiCaprio, Colin Farrell, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Jared Leto and Joaquin Phoenix.

She confesses: "Sex And The City changed everything for me because those girls would just sleep with so many people. And that's me. I'm not dating just one person.

"It is the variety of partners everyone likes, especially at my age. I'm like Angelina Jolie, taking on lovers. I don't need a steady relationship.
Yessiree. This interview is certainly going to improve her already sinking image. I loved Lindsey when she first appeared in the remake of The Parent Trap. But as she grew up, it became obvious that the mischievous cheeky little girl grew up into a spoilt, bratty, egomaniac. Her agent or publicist should be fired on the spot. You do not put a microphone in front of brainless bimbo's. publicist

Superman Returns Sequel Confirmed

YES!!! Its confirmed that there will be a sequal to Superman Returns and Bryan Singer will helm it again. Brandon Routh isn't confirmed yet but let's be honest, its almost 95% confirmed that he'll be Superman again.

I don't care what some critics said, I loved Superman Returns. It could probably have done better as an all action film but this movie was more of an introduction and continuation of the previous Reeves movies. I can't wait.

Superman Returns wasn't the performer the studio had hoped for, it has earned more than $390 million worldwide and WB and Legendary say they will still turn a profit from the film. And note this is before the DVD's hit the shelves. Of course they won't agree to another over $200 million budget but that's understandable. Even I thought that for $250 million, Superman Returns was overpriced. Singer may be a genius at directing but the man needs a lesson in financial responsibility.

Anywho, YES! Superman is coming Summer 2009!!!
