Hairspray
Hairspray is a campy romantic comedy that was made popular as a musical a few years ago on broadway. Its about a young overweight teenager named Tracy Turnblad that achieves her dream of becoming a regular on the Corny Collins Dance Show against all odds. Now a teen hero, she starts using her fame to speak out for the causes she believes in, most of all integration. In doing so, she earns the wrath of the show's former star, Amber Von Tussle, as well as Amber's manipulative, pro-segregation parents. The rivalry comes to a head as Amber and Tracy vie for the title of Miss Auto Show 1963
As a musical, its great fun and lively. The movie version is gonna be interesting. John Travolta plays Edna Turnblad, the very large mother of Tracy Turnblad (Yes he'll be overweight and in drag) and he's married to Christopher Walken. To top off the star studded cast, Michelle Pfeiffer, Amanda Bynes, and Queen Latifah.
This is on my must watch movie list for 2007.
