Kyle XY - My vote for best show of 2006

I know it might be a little presumptious to crown KyleXY as the best new TV series when fall is right round the corner and there's a bunch of new shows premiering. But I LOVE this show.

Its story and character driven, its got a great cast, and Matt Dallas has my vote for best newcomer. It might be a little touchy feely for some but remember this series is being broadcast by ABC Family, not one of those major networks.

In case you're unfamiliar with the series, it revolves around this boy (about 16 years old) who wakes up in the middle of the forest, naked and with no memory. Everything is new to him including speech. He's taken in by a social worker and her family and the story develops.

At the series conclusion of 9 episodes which aired on Monday, we're left with a cliffhanger. Kyle finally get's some answers and why people are after him.

Here are some of my fave scenes from the series:

How it all Started

Kyle gets some sleep

Kyle Finds a family

Kyle the Superhero

Kyle loses his temper

Kyle refuses to leave his family

A Sob moment

Eragon

You've probably not heard much about the movie Eragon, mostly because its not being financed by an american studio. This epic fantasy is crafted after the popular book Eragon (Inheritance). Here's a quick synopsis,
Eragon, a young farm boy, finds a marvelous blue stone in a mystical mountain place. Before he can trade it for food to get his family through the hard winter, it hatches a beautiful sapphire-blue dragon, a race thought to be extinct. Eragon bonds with the dragon, and when his family is killed by the marauding Ra'zac, he discovers that he is the last of the Dragon Riders, fated to play a decisive part in the coming war between the human but hidden Varden, dwarves, elves, the diabolical Shades and their neanderthal Urgalls, all pitted against and allied with each other and the evil King Galbatorix. Eragon and his dragon Saphira set out to find their role, growing in magic power and understanding of the complex political situation as they endure perilous travels and sudden battles, dire wounds, capture and escape.

I can't wait for it. Its been way too long since we've had an epic fantasy movie to look forward to :)

"Stargate: SG-1" Gets Cancelled

NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SOB SOB SOB!

Sadly its true. This season 10 is the last for SG1. Its the current champion for longest running SciFi series in America. Last Friday was its' 200th episode which means there's only 15 more episodes before the end.

I love this series and have followed it religiously since its beginning. Not just because its a great Scifi show but also because it holds sentimental value to me. I started working in July 1997, fresh from college, on my own and alone for the first time. The first episode of Stargate SG1 aired on 27 July 1997. Its been one of the constants in my life for the past 10 years.

Ah well. My hope now is that the final episode really ROCKS! Let's get a few people ascended! Oh and just cos it might actually work I'm signing a few online petitions and all the like. Got to support my fave TV Show. Here's an awesome Save Stargate video.

Finally got the pics for NYC uploaded

It took me a while but I finally got all the pictures uploaded online. Part of why it took so long is that I'm cheap. I refuse to pay for photo storage. W+That's why I love Yahoo photos. Its free, there's no cost at all and easy to use.

There are 2 Albums, NYC Food and NYC sight seeing. I know flickr has better descriptions and functions but I was able to add descriptions by entering the first comments for the pictures.

Below are some of the pictures.

I'm still here!

Just came back from my NYC trip and getting my life back in order + trying to organize all the photos on Flickr.

But for now I wanna show you something interesting I saw. It's what I call Trishaws. They call them Bicycle-Taxis, but for the most part they are old fashioned trishaws.

The interesting thing is that this mode of transport was getting phased out as I was growing up in Singapore and were pulled by old men. Now in trendy New York, they've been jazzed up and are being pulled by fit young people!

They are extremely popular, especially around the broadway and 5th Avenue areas as well as before and after the theater shows. They are able to weave in and out of traffic and very much faster than taking a cab in peak traffic. All theses were taken in about a 30 min span.

I was last in NYC in 2003 and there were none of these trishaws. I found that rather interesting.

I didn't sit in one, but I did see a family of 5 get in 1 and the poor guy was obviously huffing and puffing while carrying on a conversation. Alas I was too slow with the camera.

Are you a Type A?

Not that this is news to me, but this test also list the degrees inbetween A and B. I am a B+. If you put a new computer game in front of me, chances are I'll be that type A personality for the next couple of weeks. I love that feeling of going and going for 20 hours a day, killing monsters and getting loot. Its the same way with books, when I get books I love, I just HAVE to finish it in one sitting, even if it means only getting 2 hours of sleep before work.

Of course outside of my passions, I'm totally a laid back person. :)

You Have A Type B+ Personality

You're a pro at going with the flow
You love to kick back and take in everything life has to offer
A total joy to be around, people crave your stability.

While you're totally laid back, you can have bouts of hyperactivity.
Get into a project you love, and you won't stop until it's done
You're passionate - just selective about your passions

My New Fave Site

Ever heard about wikiHow? Its a wiki that basically shows you how to do things. Its so addicitive and fun to read. Here's my wikihow pick.

Sushi Etiquette
Tips

* If there is tea available, drink it with one hand holding it, and the other hand supporting it from underneath, using two hands to hold the cup. (Men don't have to do this.)
* If there is sake for drinking, it boorish to pour sake for yourself. Pour some into cups for others, and let your companions pour sake for you.
* The purpose of the soy sauce is to flavor the fish, not the rice.
* The Japanese words and phrases are optional; not every employee in a sushi shop will speak or understand Japanese.

Warnings
* Avoid playing with your chopsticks.
Don't Play with Chopsticks
Don't Play with Chopsticks
* Use a scant amount of soy sauce, it's impolite to fill up your dish with excess soy sauce.
* It's just fine to put a a small amount of wasabi on your sushi; likewise, it's fine to tell the chef (itamae-san) that you don't want any wasabi--it will never be taken as an insult. Just use the phrase "wasabi nuki de." Some folks just don't like wasabi, and the customer is king--or "god" as they say in Japanese "okyaku-sama wa kami-sama desu."
* Don't expect the chef to handle the money. Have another employee assist you. People who handle the food never touch the money.
* Don't ask for knives, as sushi is not that tough to eat!
